How
much is your water worth?
You currently pay $100 per year or $25
per quarter to have water available to you 24 hours per
day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. That means
that there is always somebody working at the Water
District, every day no matter what. If you do the math,
your price of having available drinking water is 27.4
cents per day or just over a penny per hour. Consider
also what you pay for bottled water; $0.99/gallon at
least, that’s $990.00/1000 gallons. Even at our highest
rate you will only be paying $5.55/1000 gallons and
that’s delivered. What do you pay for other utility
services delivered to your house?
This is a small price to pay when you
consider all that it takes to get the water to your home
or business. For example the District operates and
maintains 3 wells and 3 booster pumps all with electric
motors. The District pays for the electricity to run
these motors. The total motor horsepower involved is
approximately 250. This compares to the electricity to
run about 500 full size refrigerators. The electricity
for a year costs the district $74,000. This is about
$203 per day for the electricity alone to run the
District. This does not include the personnel,
maintenance, chemicals, water testing, training,
vehicles, tools, engineering, telephone, or heat
required to operate these pump stations and keep them
pumping water to you.
The District is not in business to make a
profit - we are here to provide you with continuously
monitored drinking water. Any excess money is put into a
capital fund for improvements to the District. And we
have many improvements that are needed. For instance,
about 70% of the District's infrastructure is over 50
years old and beyond its projected lifespan. We are very
fortunate that it has lasted this long without any major
failures. It has even survived a major sewer project,
thanks to our dedicated, knowledgeable and hard working
staff. We are always looking forward to the future needs
of the District and need your support. Please have faith
in us and thank you for the continued support. Your $25
Quarterly fee is NOT for
NOTHING. |
